An independent, unofficial guide to the Series 7 (General Securities Representative Examination) — not affiliated with or endorsed by FINRA.
Format last checked: September 2026. The Series 7 (General Securities Representative Examination) is developed and administered by FINRA. It requires a sponsoring FINRA member firm to register for and sit — unlike the SIE and Series 65, which need no sponsorship. It's the most widely held securities license, qualifying a registered representative to sell most types of securities products (excluding a few, like commodities futures and most life insurance/variable products, which need supplementary licenses in some cases). FINRA's official content outline organizes the exam into 4 job functions rather than product domains — see the note in the stat row below. Verify current fees, eligibility, and scheduling against FINRA's own Series 7 exam page before registering to sit for it.
FINRA's official Series 7 Content Outline groups content into 4 broad job functions (Seeks Business ~9%; Opens Accounts ~11%; Provides Information/Recommends/Maintains Records ~73%; Processes Transactions ~7%), not the product-based domains above — see the Overview notice for why this platform organizes practice by product/topic instead. All 1,000 practice questions on this page are original content written for this platform, not reproduced from any official exam or third-party prep vendor.
How this platform's testlets differ
The real Series 7 mixes all tested content into one continuous 135-question, 225-minute exam organized around FINRA's 4 job functions, with no domain-by-domain breakdown or separate timer. This portal instead lets you drill one of 10 product/topic domains at a time: pick a domain below and take a focused, timed, 15-question testlet (fewer if a domain's bank has fewer items), paced at the exam's overall average of about 1.67 minutes per question. It won't feel like sitting the full-length exam, but it's built for honest, untimed-then-timed review of each area of product knowledge.
A note on scoring
The real Series 7 is scored pass/fail — you need approximately 90 of the 125 scored questions correct (72%) to pass, with no public per-domain scaled subscore reported back to you. This portal reports plain accuracy (percent correct) on a fixed testlet against that same 72% benchmark, with a study-signal label.
Study Guide
Strategy notes for each of the 10 Series 7 practice domains on this platform — general study approaches, written for this platform.
Practice Bank
Untimed, with explanations. Filter by domain or topic, answer, then reveal the explanation whenever you're ready.
Section Testlets
Choose one domain below to take a focused, timed testlet, paced at the exam's overall average of about 1.15 minutes per question — since the real exam mixes all 8 domains into one continuous section with no per-domain timer, a single-domain testlet is a study grouping, not a simulation of the real test's structure.
Once you start, the clock runs continuously and auto-submits when it hits zero. Explanations are withheld until you finish.
