OAT Overview

An independent, unofficial guide to the current Optometry Admission Test (OAT) — not affiliated with or endorsed by ASCO or the American Dental Association (ADA), which administers the test.

Format last checked: September 2026. The OAT is delivered year-round by appointment at Prometric testing centers and consists of four timed sections taken in one sitting: Survey of the Natural Sciences, Reading Comprehension, Physics, and Quantitative Reasoning. Organic Chemistry specifications have been updated periodically (most recently expected around June 2026) — verify current section counts, timing, specifications, and fees against the official OAT candidate guide before scheduling.

How this platform's testlets differ

The real Natural Sciences section runs Biology, General Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry under one shared 90-minute clock with no sub-timer per subject, and Reading Comprehension, Physics, and Quantitative Reasoning are each single continuous timed sections. This portal instead lets you drill one of the six content areas at a time: pick a section below and take a focused, timed, 15-question testlet (fewer if a section's bank has fewer items), paced proportionally to the real section's minutes-per-question. It won't feel like sitting the full-length exam, but it's built for honest, untimed-then-timed review of each content area.

A note on scoring

The real OAT converts raw scores to a 200–400 scale per section (plus a Total Science composite of Bio/GC/OC and an Academic Average composite) using the testing program's own proprietary conversion tables, which are not publicly reproducible. This portal cannot recreate that conversion, so testlet results here report plain accuracy (percent correct) on a fixed testlet, with a study-signal label — not a 200–400 scaled score of any kind.
